How do we do it?
The first step to any Data Recovery job is to attempt hardware repair on the hard drive itself. We have access to 1,000's of parts for almost every hard drive built in the past 5 years. Sometimes it is as simple as replacing a logic board on the hard drive or a power module. Sometimes the heads needs to be replaced or the arm motors inside the hard drive have failed and need to be replaced with the identical part. Anytime a hard drive is opened it needs to be done inside a dust free environment, called a clean room, because a single spec of dust can destroy a hard drive.
If the hard drive is operational or after it is repaired, an attempt to back up the raw hard drive data is performed. If that is successful we work from the copy and your original drive is secured as a backup. Your raw data is then scanned using Data Recovery software that will attempt to compile your raw data into a usable form.
There is a very high percentage of success if the drive is operational, especially if the files missing or lost were accidentally deleted. To minimize the chance for complete loss we always recommend that as soon as the lost data is noticed, the server or computer with the data loss should be immediately turned off and unplugged.

Law Firm Has Complete Data Loss on Office Server
One of the largest law firms in Tampa Bay called with an emergency server crash. Their main server (Dell Poweredge) was not booting into Windows Server and displaying a "No Hard Disk Found" during the Raid boot up. They were instructed to turn off the server immediately. We came out picked up the Dell Power Edge server and brought it back for service. The Data Recovery technician attempted a backup but diagnosed a complete hard drive failure. We installed a new logic board for the hard drive and attempted a power up. The hard drive operated at 100% performance with new logic board and full backup was performed and burned onto DVD for the customer. Within 24 hours this customer was backup and running at full speed.
This incident could have been prevented if their previous IT service company would have had an offsite backup and server monitoring service. Hard drive crashes are predictable in certain cases when using server hardware monitoring and the offsite backup would have allowed us to install a new hard drive and download their offsite backup to the new drive, which would have had their server operational within hours.
